Private Clinics & Hospitals For NIPT (Harmony or Panorama or neoBona Test)

For the past decade, doctors have utilised the Nuchal Translucency Scan to assess pregnant women on their risk of having a baby with Down syndrome, or other possible abnormalities. This scan enables doctors to look at the skin fold of the baby’s neck along with baby’s nose bone near the 12 week mark. This combined with an additional blood test make for a 92% predictive value. While these results are strong, there is still a high margin for error, and women who present as high risk may elect to proceed to Chorion Villous Sampling (CVS) or Amniocentesis. Unfortunately, these tests are invasive and carry a risk of miscarriage of about 1:100.

Even the slightest chance of miscarriage is a scary thought for any new mum. The good news is, Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT) is now available. Doctors have discovered that a simple blood sample taken from the mother at around 10 weeks can be analysed for cell free foetal DNA. The results of this test have a predictive value of more than 99%, greatly reducing the need for more invasive and risky testing.

There are currently three main tests available in the UK – Harmony Test, Panorama Test, and neoBona Test. Please contact the clinics listed here to know more about the NIPT they offer during pregnancy.

The professional part was excellent, the administration was terrible. Our sonographer explained everything and measured the important metrics a few times to reduce the measurement error. Baby wasn't too collaborative, so she had to give to the 3D sneak peek a couple of tries until she could catch her face successfully. Bottomline: patient, knowledgable, friendly professionals. The administration on the other hand was a less pleasant experience: for our health insurance, we needed a piece of paper with a stamp confirming the date of the scan and they simply were not able to give us one because "they do not have either an official to sign anything or a stamp", because they are not "that official". They did not even try to help us or find a solution, obviously, problem solving or empathy is not their strength.

I just visited the London Ultrasound Centre this afternoon. As I have an anterior placenta (in front), it was difficult to see the baby because the cord was in the way. Despite several attempts - including walking around and lightly jumping around to encourage the baby to move, it was tricky getting clear photos. That being said, we had two decent photos at the end and the ultrasound technician was very friendly and patient throughout. Just manage your own expectations and know that if you have an anterior placenta it may prove tricky to get the photo you desire. Overall, we found the team very professional and I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants a 4D scan in London.

We visited the centre to have a scan and the experience has been outstanding. The sonographer was knowledgeable and professional. We will definitely come back any time we'll need an ultrasound scan. Miles above NHS service and quality. Cannot recommend enough.

Had my name and age wrong after I had filled out details online and in the clinic. Waited around for almost 30 minutes for a private 9.30 appointment. Scan lasted 5 minutes, NHS paid more attention and care by far. Blood test was 10 minute walk away and I then had to wait again. Find a different clinic for harmony test.

We chose London Ultrasound centre because we had a great experience 4 years ago. Unfortunately this time around we've been really dissatisfied with the service. We've had to wait for up to 30 min for our appointments (never once being on time), I've had to leave my wife waiting while I had to go back to work without even seeing the baby as there's only so much time I can get, and while the sonographers were professional, the later they run, the more rushed the scan felt. One of them lasting just 7 minutes. We didn't go private for this. While I would have recommended them a few years ago, I would not do it now.
