Review: Philips AVENT Comfort Double Electric Breast Pump

No more aching back; double the milk in the same time as pumping a single breast; super soft and comfortable cushion to stimulate milk production. How does that sound? Good, right?

If you’re looking for an honest, detailed review of the Philips AVENT Comfort Double Electric Breast Pump then look no further.

If you pump you’ll be no stranger to the back ache from leaning over whilst expressing milk and the cold, leaky, uncomfortable breast shields – not exactly conducive to a pleasant experience. The Philips AVENT Comfort Double Electric Breast Pump is the ultimate electric breast pump for mums looking to have a more comfortable pumping experience and has been designed with all this in mind.

Philips AVENT is the big daddy of the baby world and its products are used by millions of parents worldwide. Based in the UK, AVENT has been producing baby bottles since 1984 and with more than 30 years under their belt, they know a thing or two about producing high quality products for mum and baby.

The Comfort Double Electric Breast Pump is all about the little details to make expressing breast milk a more pleasant experience. The design of this breast pump allows the milk to flow straight from breast straight into the bottle without the need to lean or hunch over the bottle. This means that you can sit up straight and get comfortable, allowing you to relax which in turn helps the milk to flow more easily.

The Philips AVENT Comfort Double Electric Breast Pump is designed so that you can express twice the amount of milk in the same time it takes to pump one breast, making it much more efficient for busy mothers – let’s face it, that’s all of us! However, you can also use it as a single breast pump, depending on your requirements.

The Comfort Double Electric Breast Pump is really well designed and intuitive to both assemble and disassemble. Made up of just six separate pieces that fit together easily, it’s also clear which parts fit where so there’s no need to keep checking the instructions every five minutes.

The breast pump features a stimulation mode which is designed to mimic the way baby suckles to get the milk flowing. It also has three pumping settings so that you can adjust to your personal preference: gentle, medium or strong suction.

Unlike other breast pumps, the breast shields (called massage cushions) have a soft, velvety feel that’s not cold on the skin. The massage cushions are BPA-free and flexible to provide a tight seal and prevent leakage. The fit is suitable for most mums but if you feel like you need a larger size this is available to buy separately. The bottles that come with the breast pump are also BPA-free and come with 2 natural teats to help make it easier for baby to switch between breast and bottle.

The Comfort Double Electric Breast Pump comes apart quickly for easy cleaning (dishwasher proof) and sterilisation of all parts (except electrical bits). It also comes with a handy travel bag so you can take it with you wherever you go.

What we liked about the Philips AVENT Comfort Double Electric Breast Pump

There’s a lot to like about the Comfort Double Electric Breast Pump, but mostly we love that the pump allows you to sit upright without worrying that the milk isn’t going to go into the bottle. That’s right – no more aching back!

Other things we love include the suction strength which can be adjusted to suit – Philips AVENT understand that not everyone is comfortable with the same setting; there is also no pinching from the massage cushions like you get with some other breast pumps; and the pump is adaptable so can be used as single or double depending on your needs at the time.

Last but not least, the pump is compatible with other Philips AVENT products and so can be used in combination with other milk storage containers and breast care accessories for added comfort.

What we didn’t like about the Philips AVENT Comfort Double Electric Breast Pump

With no battery operated option it does mean that to use the Comfort Double Electric Breast Pump you will need to be near a plug socket, and although the pump isn’t the noisiest, it’s also not the quietest (we’d say about average) and perhaps not best used right next to baby when sleeping.

Reviews from users

“Best electric double pump ever, the cushion pads definitely help with comfort and beat the other brands”
Asma Osman

“The pump is easy to set up and use. I was a little disappointed that there was no timer feature but this didn’t affect the pumps performance. I found I could express more milk with this pump and it kept the milk flowing longer.”

“The Avent double electric breast pump has help increase my milk supply. It helped me express double the amount of milk due to the double pump facility. I found the pump very easy to use and even easier to take apart in order to clean and sterilise it. The design of this pump allows u to pump will sitting back and relaxing, hence increasing your milk flow. I definitely recommend this pump to other mums”

If you express regularly then this is the breast pump for you. Philips AVENT has really put a lot of thought into the design of this electric breast pump to create a unique design to make pumping more comfortable.

Mains-powered, there’s no need to worry about the battery running out, although this may be a deal breaker for some who prefer a battery-operated option.

Despite being a twin breast pump, it’s surprisingly compact and lightweight, making it easily portable – especially with the travel bag that is included.

We feel the comfort, convenience and benefits make the £280 price tag well worth it.
