Host: Alexa Dean and Louisa Aldridge
(Alexa Dean Yoga)

Topic: Postnatal Wellness Yoga
With yoga’s reputation for connecting body, spirit and mind as well as encouraging a stress-free environment, what better way to develop a bond with your new arrival then to try postnatal yoga? Also great for some much-needed peace and quiet, this self-reflective practice is ideal during the ‘fourth trimester’, otherwise known as the first few weeks after your baby has been born.

Stumbling headfirst into sleep-deprived parenthood, you may feel that taking care of your little one is overwhelming you, so your postnatal routines and ‘me time’ become all the more important. One way that postnatal yoga can help is by treating newborns as if they were still ‘in utero’ – this can make life much easier for new families.

This workshop will explore traditional postnatal techniques utilised during postnatal yoga sessions in the 40 days after labour, also stress the importance of resting and warming the mother and baby. Other topics discussed that feature in postnatal yoga will include:

Other topics we will discuss include:

  • Understanding the transition you and baby go through after birth
  • Learning about the power of touch with massage & movement for your baby
  • Using breath and bodywork with a ‘less is more’ approach
  • Understanding the benefits of working the core muscles and how best to do it
